THE 225TH BIRTHDAY OF THE
AMERICAN FLAG
9WMEA.j the Stars and Stripes is a celebration of the representation of freedoms, independence, liberties
and strengths that Americans have personally cherished for 225 years, and
ffHERL4.S flying the flag preserves our faith in American heritage and the future of our country; and
WHEREAS, our flag proudly radiates the commitment of our founders to freedom, equality and opportunity, a
commitment that we proudly work hard to maintain two centuries later; and
WHEREAS, our flag represents our spirit as a nation, our unity as a people and our commitment to the
awesome responsibilities and sacrifices of those who have gone before and legacy left to us. It is the patriots of
prior generations that have strongly and boldly carried our nation from generation to generation and it is now
our turn to ensure better lives for ourselves and our children; and
WHEREAS, let us carry the torch with the pioneering spirit in which this great country was founded.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RES'O'LYEOthat the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, does
hereby support flying the flag throughout the City of Martinez in honor of the

PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this 9d day of July 2002.
