HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-412 In the Matter of Supporting the Workers ) Of Alan Ritchey,Inc. ) RESOLUTION NO.2002/412 WHEREAS, Alan Ritchey, Inc., has a contract with the U.S. Postal Service to operate a Mail Transport Equipment Service Center (MTESC), which is located at 2900 Atlas Road in Richmond's Point Pinole Business Park;and WHEREAS, to better their working conditions,the workers sought union representation and voted by a two-to-one margin on April 13,2000 to be represented by ILWU Warehouse Local 6;and WHEREAS,two years later,the workers have been unable to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with their employer;and WHEREAS,the National Labor Relations Board found Alan Ritchey,Inc.,guilty of"serious and extensive„ violations of the National Labor Relations Act,including illegal and unfair treatment of its workers and failure to bargain in good faith;and WHEREAS,Alan Ritchey operates in Richmond's Enterprise Zone,which was set up to bring good jobs to the community and allows businesses within the zone to receive various subsidized tax benefits;and WHEREAS, the City of Richmond facilitated the start-up of Alan Ritchey, Inc.'s MTESC and went on record two years ago in support of the workers' right to a free and fair union election; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors supports the rights of the Alan Ritchey,Inc.,workers to a fair collective bargaining agreement,speedily negotiated;and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will write to Alan Ritchey, Inc.,and urge it to negotiate a fair agreement without further delay;and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will send a letter to the U.S.Postal Service,requesting that it urge its subcontractor,Alan Ritchey,Inc.,to respect labor law;and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will send a letter to Assemblymember Dion Aroner, supporting her proposal to hold state hearings on Alan Ritchey, Inc.'s labor practices in order to help clarify Alan Ritchey,Inc.'s use of state support through the Enterprise Zone program.. PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this 25th day of June 2002.
