RECOMMENDATION:
ACKNOWLEDGE receipt of a memorandum dated June 25, 2002 from the Labor
Relations Manager regarding a petition filed by the American Federation of State,
County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 512 proposing the modification
of the Engineering Unit, currently represented by Public Employees Union, Local
One.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
In accordance with Section 34-12.016 of the County's Employer-Employee Relations
Resolution 61/1165, on May 31, 2002 AFSCME, Local 512 filed a petition for
modification of an established representation unit to include the following two (2)job
classifications, currently represented by Public Employees Union, Local One:
Real Property Technical Assistant (DY7B)
Senior Property Technical Assistant (DY7C)
The petition qualifies in that proof of employee approval met or exceeded the
minimum thirty percent (30%) required for qualifying the petition.

SUBJECT: PETITION FILED BY AFSCME, LOCAL 512 PROPOSING MODIFICATION OF
THE ENGINEERING UNIT
In accordance with Section 34-12.016 of the County's Employer-Employee
Relations Resolution 81/1165, this is to advise the Board of Supervisors that on
May 31, 2002, AFSCME, Local 512 filed a petition for modification of an
established representation unit to include the following two (2) Job classifications,
currently represented by Public Employees Union, Local One:
'Real Property Technical Assistant (DY7B)
Senior Property Technical Assistant (DY7C)
Proof of employee approval met or exceeded the minimum thirty percent (30%)
required for qualifying the petition.
By copy of this memorandum, other recognized employee organizations are
advised that intervention in the unit determination process and/or to appear on a
representational election ballot requires thirty percent (30%) of employee
approval and must be submitted, to me, within twenty one (21) calendar days
from the date of this memo.
