Attorney's Selection as Agency of the Year by the )
Western States Information Network ) RESOLUTION NO.2002/3W
WHEREAS the County of Contra Costa is a major center of methamphetamine manufacturing,
which not only leads to violent criminal activity, but represents a health risk to the entire community
because of the toxicity of chemicals involved and their propensity to explode and ignite fires in residential
and business areas;
WHEREAS the District Attorney's Office,under the leadership of District Attorney Gary T.Yancey,
Chief Deputy District Attorney Robert J.Kochly and Supervising Attorney Jose Marin,has a longstanding
record of vigorous prosecution of drug lab cases with high conviction rates;
WHEREAS the District Attorney's eight-person drug prosecutionitealm has a reputation throughout
the law enforcement community of the State of California and beyond, for itstireless work ethic and
dedication to<duty;
WHEREAS the District Attorney's drug team is known for its cooperation with police, social
service, and health agencies to protect the citizens of Contra Costa County, including initiation of an
innovative program with Child Protective Services and police to safeguard the health of children, often
living in the midst of toxic drug labs;
WHEREAS the Western States Information Network(WSIN),aintelligence-sharing organization of
law enforcement agencies throughout the States of California,,Hawaii,Alaska,Oregon and Washington,
recently recognized the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office its 2061 Agency the Year,a
prestigious honor NEVER before awarded to a District Attorney's Office in the WSIN's 20-year history;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra
Costa hereby acknowledges the Western States Information Network's award of Agency of the Year to the
Contra Costa District Attorney's Office,and expresses its continued appreciation of the contributions of the
District Attorney and his staff to combat drug violence and protect all the citizens of Contra Costa County.
PASSED and ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this eleventh
day of June 2002.
