HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-339 In the Matter of Endorsing the ) State Housing Bond on the ) November,2002 Ballot ) RESOLUTION NO.2002/339 WHEREAS, there is an extreme shortage of rental housing in California,particularly for lower income renters, and one-half of all low-income renters.and three-quarters of all very low-income renters spend more than 50% of their income for house;and WHEREAS,nearly 500,000 households languish.on Section 8 waiting lists- and most wait more than three years for their names'to`co up,,and; WHEREAS,more than 360,000 Californians are homeless,according to the Department,of Housing and p Community f3evelo menta and WHEREAS,morethan 70,000 federally funded affordable low-income rental units are at risk of conversion to market rate units;and ,ki WHEREAS, California is second to last in the nation in hornownersh�p rates,axed . WHEREAS,: the state housing bond will, according to the Departnierit of Hous ,ig, & Community Development, create up to 22,000 permanently affordable homes for rent, enable more than 65,000 California families to purchase their own homes, provide housing assistance for 12,000.to 24,000 farm worker families, and underwrite 20 million shelter bed days for homelesspeople;and WHEREAS, the Bond will result in at least$6 billion in newly leveraged investment in California, for example,atypical dollar of funding leverages between$3 and$4 dollars of private capital or federal funds; and WHEREAS,the combination of public and private investment will create approximately 26,002 full-time jobs and generate$9:38 billion in wages, NOW,THEREFORE.,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors supports and encourages Contra Costa County residents to vote for the State Housing Bond on November 5,2002.
