Whereas, the American family, serving as the'pri*wy source of love,.identity, self-esteem, and
support, is the very foundatron of our communities crud our notion; and
Whereas, there are ctrt7'eintly 2,`tl8(1 children in foster care in Contra Costa County due to problems of
abuse and neglect h6veedthe.tear porary safety and security of a stable foster family until they can
achieve a safe,.permanent,,�am ly envirom.nent, and
Whereas, emergency foster families open their homes and hearts to hese children in crisis,'often in
the middle of the night and without notice, comforting and holding thesefrightened and confused
children; and
Whereas, over 527foster families in.Contra Costa County dedicate themselves to providing these
chil*en with the love and values that help prepare thein,for responsi rle adult li'1091 and
Whereas, numerous public anxdprivate agencies work to increase the public's awareness r,f'the needs
of childrenrtt foster care and the enduring and valuable contributionoffoster pizt'ents.
NowI , th'er'efore;be'it resolved that the Board of Supervisors hereby declares May 2002 as'FOSTEl
PARENT RECOGNITION MONTH in Contra Costa County.
