HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-328 The Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County In the Matter of Resolution No.2002/328 IN RECOGNITION OF THE WERE ALL DOWNSTREAM WATERSHED CLEAN-UP AND FESTIVAL MAY 25, 2002 WHEREAS, on Saturday May 25, 2002, the We're All Downstream partners for the Kirker Creek watershed are sponsoring a creek clean-up,poster and poetry contest for local students, and lecture series in cooperation with Los Medanos College; and WHEREAS, these events will take place in cooperation with the Dow Environmental Faire, an event which brings thousands of East County residents and other members of the public together with organizations and individuals involved in local environmental conservation efforts at the award winning Dow Wetlands site; and WHEREAS, "We're All Downstream"has developed as a spin-off of the CALFED supported Kirker Creek Watershed Planning effort and brings together representatives of Pittsburg Unified School District, Dow Chemical, Los Medanos College, Contra Costa Resource Conservation District, Delta Diablo Sanitation District, County Supervisor Federal D. glover's Office, and the City of Pittsburg to provide opportunities for enhanced support of local watershed stewardship efforts; and WHEREAS, members of this watershed partnership group have already participated in native plant conservation efforts, involved LMC students in coordinating the We're All Downstream poster and poetry contest in Pittsburg schools,participated in aquatic water quality sampling efforts, and sponsored lectures on watershed conservation issues; and WHEREAS, the We're All Downstream partners have been selected to send a team to the Adopt-A-Watershed's Summer Leadership Institute at the Mt. Bachelor conference center in Oregon from July 13--20, 2002. NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, does hereby proclaim Saturday May 25, 2042 as "Watershed Appreciation Day"in Contra Costa County and call upon all citizens,families, agencies, and businesses to learn more about watershed stewardship and how they can protect our water resources. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 21"day of May, 2402.
