HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-320 RESOLUTION NO. 2002/320 IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING THE CENTER FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT'S QUEER YOUTH ACTION TEAM(QYYAT)FOR THE EXEMPLARY ACHIEVEMENTS MADE WHEREAS,The Center for Human Development was utak fished in 1972 as a drug education program for Contra Costa County, Califorizfa 9choolso'In its0 years serving the.t ommunity, the Center for Human Development has proven its commitment tothe community through outreach services, promoting health and well eirtg�'>i4 individuals, families and coin . munities; and WHEREAS, the"Emp6 *er'Weent program,".a part of The Center for Human Development created the "Queer Youth Action Team,*'a group of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight allied youth who are working to make Contra Costa County a safe and; more supportive place for Queer youth; and WHEREAS, the Queer Youth Action Team is working with the Contra Costa AIDS program'to produce HIV/AADS materials that appeal to Queer youth and educate against homophobia and make schools a place tti`learn, not a place to battle; and WHERIMS, the Queer Youth Action Team conducted school surveys regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, trapsgender,'and`questioning youth issues in the West Contra Costa Unified tiopI District and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District; and WHEREAS, the Queer Youth Action Tease has worked with the West Contra Costa Unified School District Board to paras a resolution outlining specific strategies to implement Assembly Bill 537, the Student Safety and, iolence Prevention Act of 2000; and WHEl7l18, the Queer.Youth Action Tease assisted the West Contra Costa Unified School District in forming a task force that will oversee the implementation of these recommendations; and WHEN, the Queer Youth"Action Team received the Peacemaker's Award for working to end discrimination against lesbian,gay, bisexual, transgender,and questioning students in Contra.Costa County'Schools, the Bridging the Gap Award from Contra Costa Human Relations Commission,;and the prestigious Human Rights Campaign Award in recognizing their outstanding organization individuals who are tirelessly working to create equality for lesbian, gay' bisexual,'transgender, and questioning people. NOW,TI EREFORE,by virtue of the authority vested in rite as the Chair of the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors,I am honored to present this CER77FICATE OF RECOGNMON TO THE CENTER FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT'S QUEER Y'OVTHACTION TEAM(QYAT)for the exemphuy achievements and its commitment to the schools of Contrq,Casta Court .
