GOMES AND HIS 25 YEARS OF SER VICE TO THE CM OF SAN PABLO WHEREAS,Joseph M. Gomes was born on March 25th" 1916, has been a resident of San Pablo since 1923, and is the proud parent of two children,four grand-children and five great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS,Joseph M. Gomes has contributed his time and talent to the community as an active member of the San Pablo Chamber of Commerce, the San Pablo Eagles Aerie No. 3028, Moose Lodge No. 550, the San Pablo Exchange Club, the San Pablo Housing Authority Board of Commissioners,the San Pablo Planning Commission and the West Contra Costa Salesian Boys &Girls Club; and WHEREAS,Joseph M. Gomes in 1977 was initially appointed to the San Pablo City Council,and was elected in 1980, 1984, 1988 199Z 1996 and 2000 to continue his service to his community in this capacity, during which time served as Mayor of the City of San Pablo for five terms; and WHEREAS,Joseph M. Gomes,for his many years of unselfish and dedicated service to his community was recognized as the 1996 recipient of the West Contra Costa Salesian Boys &Girls Club Don Bosco Award, and WHEREAS, as of March 25th,2002,Joseph M. Gomes, at the age of 86, has served the City of San Pablo for 25 years as a City Councilmember and is the oldest member of the Council, NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County recognizes Joseph M. Gomes for his untiring and exemplary service to the West County community. GL VER District IV Supervisor District V Supervisor Witness my hand and the Seal of the Board of Supervisors affixed this 23rd Day of April,2002 John Sweeten,Clerk of the Board of Introduced by Supervisor John Gioia Supervisors and County Administrator I By '- .45� L(2 �Deputy .".fie Board of Superw'sors of Contra Costa Count CaKfornia In the Matter of Honoring ) the 15oth Anniversary of ) County Offices of Education ) RESOLUTIONNO. 2002/273 WIWERRAS, the California state legislature, wishing to ensure that county schools were properly overseen, adopted the Common School Act of . 852, creating the administration unit of the County Superintendent of Common Schools; and WHEREAS, county offices of education throughout the state are celebrating 150 years of providing oversight and support services for schools and students within their boundaries; and WHEREAS, the duties of the county office of education have evolved to meet the needs of its ever-increasing educational expectations, and the re- definitions, re-organizations, and reallocations legislated to meet those needs throughout the years have shaped the nature and function of the county office of education; and VMERLAS, the employees of county offices of education have served the State of California and its children for many generations and have played a pivotal role in furthering the goals of public education forAll students; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby recognize 2002 as the sesquicentennial of the county offices of education and encourage schools, districts, citizens and staff to honor the achievements and accomplishments of the County Office of Education; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors encourage activities to recognize the past,present and future accomplishments of the County Office of Education during 2002.
