HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-203 IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING MAY 26-31,2002 AS ELDER ABUSE PREVENTION WERE` RESOLUTION NO. 2002/203 Whereas the issue of elder abuse remains a largely hidden and underreported problem,affecting one of the most vulnerable populations, and Whereas, Contra Costa County is dedicated to preserving the safety and well-being of all its inhabitants, and Whereas Contra Costa County operates a 24-hour Adult Protective Services program dedicated to inves- tigating allegations of abuse or neglect of elderly persons or dependent adults, and Whereas Contra Costa County has a special elder abuse prosecution unit within the District Attorney's office dedicated to bringing crimes against elderly victims to justice, and Whereas, the issue of elder abuse requires continual community education and awareness. NOW, therefore, be it RESOLVED that, The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the week of May 26-31, 2002 to be Elder Abuse Prevention Week; a week dedicated to community activities to educate and inform people about the types of elder abuse, intervention, and prevention measures that can be taken against elder abuse.
