HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-164 In the Matter of Resolution No. 20021164 RECOGNLZING THE HONEST AND FAITHFUL SERVICE TO CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BY EMA.NUEL K. "MAC"MCCALL WHEREAS, this posthumous award is being made to honor the memory and recognize the devoted service to Contra Costa County of Emanuel K. "Mac"McCall; and WHEREAS, Mac first began his career with Contra Costa County in 1959 by f lling in for officers on vacation at the Sheriff's Department and became the first black deputy for the Contra Costa Sherif's Department, and in 1961, was sworn in as a full-time deputy; and WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Sheriff's Department, Mac served as one of Pleasant Hill's first police officers when the City contracted with the Sheriff's Department for police protection; and WHEREAS, after thirteen years as a sworn deputy he was forced to retire due to health reasons; and WHEREAS, shortly after his retirement he was hired by the Contra Costa College District to develop a security system where he became the district's first police officer and retired after sixteen years as the Chief of Police Services; and WHEREAS, Mac was blessed withfve children,five step-children, twelve grandchildren,five step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren, who received from their father, step-father, grandfather, step-grandfather and great grandfather the kind of happy home lie and careful training that develops good citizens and worthy adults; and WHEREAS, Mac was a conscientious and trustworthy employee and his dedicated interest and devotion to duty had a valuable effect on all who worked with him; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County recognizes the exceptional services provided this community by Emanuel K "Mac"McCall. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby extend this official citation, transmitted with our heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family.
