HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-121 (e2 In the Matter of Honoring ) Lillian Feley } for her dedication to the community ) RESOLUTION NO. 20021121 I+MREAS Lillran Fdey has been a dedicated volunteer for the "America Red Cross"for over 64 years; and UlhF12 S Ldlian,Fdeygrew up on a small farm in Fairview, West Virginia. She attended "Italy"grade school on "Jakes Run"and graduated from Blacksville High School in Blacksville, West Virginia. Upon graduation she enrolled in Nurses training at "St.Josephs Hospital"in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania graduating in 1938;and l ?EA,5 Lij&n peley joined the America Red Cross as a volunteer while in nursing training and continues to be a volunteer with the local chapter and the National organization as a Disaster Health Service worker;and UIMR i LjL1 an Feley served in World War II as a f light nurse with the 101" Airborne Division in the European theater;and g4wA , L91an Feley moved to Concord in August of 1956 with her husband and son. She joined the local chapter of the American Red Cross and has assisted the residents of East Contra Costa County with emergency assistance to victims of home fires and natural disasters such as Floods and Earthquakes;and VOIFRE4S Lillrain Fdey with the assistance of the City of Concord Park and Recreation Department started a American Red. Cross Disabled Persons swimming class in 1956. The city of Concord allowed the use of the city swimming pool on Detroit Avenue for the class use.The program ran for 10 weeks during the summer. Local high school youth, boys and girls and the "Mothers and Daughters"club of Lafayette volunteered to assist in the program. The Red Gross program was in operation from 1956 until the fall of 1991; and W)V,�K: L Lten Feley was involved in the 9111 World Trade Center Disaster assisting victims and families in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York City.
