HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012001 - 2001-495 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Resolution on October 16. 2001, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Gioia, Gerber, DeSaulnier, Glover and Uilkema NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None Resolution No. 2001/495 Subject: Candidate Statement of Qualifications WHEREAS, a review of existing policy regarding candidate statements has revealed that the existing policy is out of date, and does not reflect current California elections custom and policy, an updated resolution is needed. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors adopts the following resolution: 1. Candidate statements shall not exceed 250 words 2. The format and structure of the candidate statement must comply with the 250 word maximum limit, fit within the allotted space on the appropriate form provided by the elections official, and meet the font size, darkness, and uniform spacing specifications as determined by the Elections Department. 3. Candidates shall be charged a pro-rata share of the cost of preparing, producing and distributing the candidate statements. 4. The Elections Department shall not provide for the distribution of additional candidate material. Candidates who choose to submit a candidate statement shall be required to make a deposit equal to the estimated cost of the statement as determined by the Elections Department. The deposit shall apply to the cost of preparing, producing and distributing the candidate statement, including costs incurred as a result of complying with the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended. If the deposit does not cover the said costs, the candidate agrees to pay for the additional costs. If the deposit is in excess of said costs, the Election Department shall refund to the candidate the excess amount paid.
