HONORING RICHMOND MAYOR ROSEMARY CORBIN FOR HER
SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT TO THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES
WHEREAS,Rosemary Corbin has been the Mayor of Richmond since 1993;an
WHEREAS,prior to her tenure as Richmond Mayor,Rosemary Corbin served a a City council member in
1985 and was re-elected in 1989;and
WHEREAS,Rosemary Corbin's dedication to promoting Arts Activities can be ced back the 1970s when
she served as a board member of the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts; d
WHEREAS, Rosemary Corbin's initial invitation to the Oakland-East Bay Sym hony to play a series in
Richmond began a musical tradition that is now in its sixth year;and
WHEREAS,Mayor Rosemary Corbin has shown her commitment to the Arts by irecting support from the
Mayor's beautification fund to public art such as banners and the Rosie th Riveter Memorial, has
promoted the use of public funds on community murals throughout the City of ichmond,has spoken to
groups about the importance of public arts and arts organizations, and has to hied for money for arts
education;and
WHEREAS Rosemary Corbin represented the City of Richmond when she trave ed to Italy with other U.S.
Mayors to discuss with Italian Mayors the use of public art as an economic dev lopment tool;and
WHEREAS,Rosemary Corbin has successfully promoted the arts and humanities hile fulfilling her role as
Richmond's Mayor by serving on groups such as the Energy Affairs Committee f the League of California
Cities, the Energy and Environment Committees of both the National Lea of Cities and the U.S.
Conference of Mayors, represents the City of Richmond on the West Contra -osta Integrated Waste
Management Authority,and is a member of the East Bay Cities on the San Franc' co Bay Conservation and
Development Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervi ors of Contra Costa
County does hereby recognize and honor Richmond Mayor Rosemary Corbin for her tireless
work enhancing the fives of residents not only in Richmond, but of the entire region, by
promoting the arts and humanities.
PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this
2nd day of Oc er 2001 ,
