RECOMMENDATIONS
APPROVE Resolution 2001/_a.0 which proclaims July 25, 2001 as "Bottle and Can Recycling
Day" in Contra Costa County.
FISCAL IMPACT
No impact to the County General Fund. (No County Match)
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
The California Department of Conservation (DOC) has started a new campaign to increase
beverage container recycling efforts. This year's slogan is "Recycle. It's good for the bottle.
It's good for the can." As a part of the campaign, DOC and Bay Area recycling programs are
proclaiming July 25, 2001 as "Bottle and Can Recycling Day".
Funding awarded by the DOC will be used to fund a new pilot recycling program for beverage
containers in the offices and lobbies at 651 Pine Street. This program is being coordinated
jointly by the Community Development and General Services Departments. The new beverage
container recycling program is expected to begin sometime in August. This program will entail
the collection and recycling of aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles.
