HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012001 - 2001-251 gomow 94& RESOLUTION HONORING LOVONYA MAE RESOLUTION NO. 2001/ 251 PORTER-DEJEAN FOR HER OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND DEDICATION WHEREAS, LOVONYA MAE PORTER-DEJEAN began her teaching career in Oakland, California where she taught one year, and afterwards, she moved to San Francisco where she was a teacher, a counselor, a dean and an assistant principal; in 1988, she continued her career in Richmond Unified School District as the Principal of John F. Kennedy High School, Administrator of Magnet Schools and Director of Consolidated Programs; and WHEREAS, LOVONYA MAE PORTER-DEJEAN initiated a number of innovative and rewarding programs, which have made a difference in the West Contra Costa Unified School District and in the community; these programs included her presenting to the District valuable cultural enrichment programs from the Center for Applied Cultural Studies and Education Achievement; and WHEREAS, LOVONYA MAE PORTER-DEJEAN'S effectiveness as an administrator was due to her dedication and hard work combined with positive leadership and enthusiasm for her profession; Mrs. DeJean had the rare combination of leadership ability along with compassionate understanding of the problems of others; and WHEREAS, LOVONYA MAE PORTER-DEJEAN was not just a strong and wonderful advocate for education,her commitment to the community was equally as important; for the City of Hercules, BACA, and NAACP, she annually coordinated successful programs to commemorate Kwanzaa, and Dr. Martin Luther King Day; she also was the instructor and guest speaker for Kwanzaa celebration for the NAACP-African American Student Union at Pinole Valley High School; WHEREAS, LOVONYA MAE PORTER-DEJEAN is an inspiration to all of us and we are proud to recognize Ms. Lovonya Mae Porter-DeJean, who was an esteemed administrator in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, for her outstanding leadership and dedication in the field of education and in community involvement, statewide, nationally and internationally.
