In the Matter of Proclaiming May 17, 2001
Bike to Work Day 2001
RESOL UTION NO. 20011200
WHEREAS, breathing clean air is vital to healthy lungs and life;
WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa acknowledges that cycling to work is a
successful rideshare mode to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce air pollution and reduce
dependence on oil; and
WHEREAS, bike-to-work days have proven effective in converting drivers into bicyclists
and educating citizens about the environmental importance of biking to work regularly;
and
WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa encourages its employees and citizens to bike to
work, in order to improve air quality and promote the health benefits of cycling; and
WHEREAS, cities and counties throughout California are promoting Thursday, May 17,
2001, as a statewide bike-to-work day; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED, that the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors do hereby proclaim May 17, 2001, as Contra Costa County Bike-to-Work
Day.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 15, 2001, by a unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
I hereby certif. That the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the
Minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the aforesaid date.
