HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012001 - 2001-167 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming 2001 as the Year of Mental Health RESOLUTION NO. 20011 167 WHEREAS, according to the Little Hoover Commission, the public adult system of mental health care in California is under funded by at least 50%; and WHEREAS, according to the Little Hoover Commission, "community leaders need to define for the State a public commitment to serve those with mental illness and advocate for that commitment until it is fulfilled"; and WHEREAS, in response to the dire shortage of funding and the crucial unmet needs of both the adult and children's mental health care systems in Contra Costa County the Mental Health Coalition formed, comprising the Client Network, the Contractors'Alliance, Local 1, the Mental Health Association, the National Alliance for the Mentally III and the Mental Health Commission, and has mobilized a timely response to this crisis; and WHEREAS, the Mental Health Coalition has been able to reach a critical consensus on the four greatest priorities for mental health service support: client-run community centers, affordable housing, transition services for youth aged 17-25 and residential treatment facilities; and WHEREAS, the unity of the-Coalition on these priorities provides an unprecedented opportunity for the strengthening of the public mental health care system through increased cooperation and collaboration among all County Departments, community-based organizations, City governments and other advisory Boards and Councils; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County declares its commitment to improving the public system of mental health care by proclaiming 2001 as.the Year of Mental Health.
