RESOLUTION NO. 2001/148
4HEREA,5 decent, safe and affordable housing is one of the basic necessities of life; and
WHEREA,; affordable housing is of vital importance to the health and well-being of Contra Costa's
residents; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of Contra Costans 'live in overcrowded, substandard, and otherwise
inadequate housing, and
GUWEREAS, hundreds more are paying over 30 percent and many over 50 percent of their income
for housing and are at significant risk of losing their housing and becoming homeless; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of units of affordable housing have been built by non-profit developers in this
county; and
WHEREAS, these affordable housing units are well managed, well maintained, and enhance the
communities in which they are located; and
WHEREAS, The Association of Homeless and Housing Service Providers of Contra Costa County
and East Bay Housing Organizations have organized events during Affordable Housing Week to
acknowledge the need for, and significance of affordable housing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declare June 1st, 2001
through June 10`x, 2001 as Affordable Housing Week in Contra Costa County and call upon the
people of Contra Costa County to learn about and honor the contributions of affordable housing by `
participating in activities,held throughout the week to commemorate this observance.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON June 5, 2 00 1, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
