WHEREAS Charles C. Lewis is retiring from his position as County Environmental Health
Technician with Contra Costa Environmental Health on March 30,2001, it is appropriate at this time to
acknowledge his many achievements and to publicly recognize his professional and civic leadership;and
WHEREAS Chuck began his Environmental Health career with Contra Costa County as
Environmental Health Technician in August 1988,coming to this County from the Travis Air Force Base
Fire Department where he also served as Fire Captain from 1980 to 1988;and
WHEREAS Chuck previously worked for the Travis Air Force Base Fire Department and the United
States Air Force for 22 years in various capacities including airman, sales store specialist,hose man, and
engineer,and obtained vast experience in communicating and working with people;and
WHEREAS during his tenure with Contra Costa County,Chuck has successfully negotiated with
property owners to mitigate solid waste accumulations that present health and safety hazards and nuisance
situations throughout the County, providing a safe,healthy, pristine environment for the residents and
visitors of Contra Costa County;and
WHEREAS Chuck has devoted his professional career to public service and is a member of the
California Association of Code Enforcement Officers,the California Fire Fighters Association;and
WHEREAS he has made numerous contributions to his community serving as coach and/or
manager of Little League Baseball teams,Bobbie Sox teams,and the Travis Air Force Base Fire Department
Softball Team,and as a Past Master at the Masonic Lodge;and
WHEREAS Chuck is a hardworking, dedicated individual, loving husband of 41 years to wife,
Adell, devoted parent and grandparent to two daughters, one son, five grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes great pleasure in congratulating
Charles C.Lewis on his valuable service to the community,his profession and to Contra Costa County,and
wishes him many wonderful,exciting and fulfilling years of retirement.
PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this 20th day of March
2001.
