in the Matter of the Contra Costa County
Cooperative Extension receiving a 2000 Challenge)
Award from the California State Association of
Counties (CSAC) entitled Integrated Pest
Management - Outreach and Education RESOLUTION NO. 2001/01
Whereas the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) sponsors these unique
awards to recognize the innovative and creative spirit of California county governments for
finding new and effective ways of providing programs and services to their citizens, and;
Whereas, the Challenge Awards program is exciting and important to California counties
because they offer statewide recognition for the innovation and leadership demonstrated by
county government and serve as a valuable resource to all counties by providing model
approaches for improved programs and services, and;
Whereas, Contra Costa County submitted two out of the 162 challenge award entries
submitted by 33 counties throughout the state, and;
Whereas, the Cooperative Extension Department submitted an entry entitled integrated
Pest Management: Education and Outreach. This innovative program was designed to help
Contra Costa residents manage pests in ways that are safe for families, pets and the environment,
and;
Whereas, CSAC convened an independent panel of distinguished judges with expertise in
county programs and challenges who selected the winning programs based on demonstrated
leadership, innovation, collaboration, creativity, resourcefulness and effectiveness, and;
Whereas CSAC selected the Integrated Pest Management: Education and Outreach as a
2000 Challenge Award winner and will spotlight it in a special 2000 Challenge Awards Program
Directory, featured on the CSAC Web Site and in California County magazine and;
Whereas Contra Costa County has received seven other achievement awards: in 1989
our winners were "Emergency Management" and "Paperless Parking Citation System", in 1990
our grand prize winner was the "Productivity Investment Fund", in 1994 our winner was the
"Automated Building Inspection Request System", in 1995 our winner was "Health Care for the
Homeless", in 1997 our winner was "Kids Like Maria" Foster and Adoptive Parent Recruitment,
and in 1999 we were recognized for the "Grant Revenue Improvement Program", and;
Whereas the Cooperative Extension Department has won this prestigious award and has
brought great honor, pride, and recognition to our County, and;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes great pleasure in
congratulating the Cooperative Extension Department for its creative efforts in promoting
responsible, responsive and effective county government.
