HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-471 Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, State of California IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING OCTOBER,DOANESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH&ZERO ) TOLERANCE FOR DOMESTIC ) VIOLENCE MONTH ) Resolution 2000/4 71 WHEREAS, domestic violence is a serious crime that affects people of all races, ages, income levels, sexes, and the community at large; WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security, and humanity, due to the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and economic control or abuse; WHEREAS, the total health care, legal, and law enforcement costs of family violence are estimated in the hundreds of millions each year, WHEREAS, Battered Women's Alternatives Is the catalyst that breaks the generational cycle of abuse and rebuilds lives, WHEREAS, Battered Women's Alternatives, as a California leader in the domestic violence arena for over 20 years, mobilizes the community through a variety of collaborative efforts to provide domestic violence services in Contra Costa County serving over 12,500 clients annually; WHEREAS, Battered Women's Alternatives is a multi-service agency which provides a broad range of services, Including a 24-hour crisis line; shelter, legal advocacy, children and teen programs; counseling; support groups, employment assistance, batterer's treatment program, emergency response teams working In collaboration with police departments;and prevention programs; WHEREAS, Battered Women's Alternatives works to unite the community to stand against domestic violence, WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors has implemented a resolution for Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence; NOW, THEREFORE, In recognition of the important work done by the Battered Women's Alternatives, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the month of October 2000 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Month and urges all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs sponsored by Battered Women's Alternatives to work toward the elimination of domestic violence.
