HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-470 c C--�k M6�a Fooe,4� ro�l In the Matter of Recognition of the) Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley) RESOLUTION NO. 2000/470 Whereas, the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley have established themselves as one of the most innovative leading veteran organizations in the Tri-Valley area; and Whereas, the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley lead the community in supporting a positive image for our country's Viet Nam Veterans, which they have accomplished through many efforts including the All Wars Memorial, the Danville 4' of July Parade, and the County's most well attended Memorial Day ceremonies; and Whereas, the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley recognized the need to serve the 7,000 displaced, needy and homeless veterans of the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. The organization pioneered the establishment of the East Bay Stand Down in 1999 and again in 2000; and Whereas, through the East Bay Stand Down 2000, the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley aided 320 displaced, homeless and needy veterans. The needy veterans received legal assistance, social security assistance, medical assistance, substance abuse recovery assistance and many other services. Many of the veterans were able to go directly into recovery and housing programs, received clean legal records, went to work, and many other tangible, direct benefits which will help them to become productive citizens again; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS recognizes and commends the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley for their leadership in the East Bay Stand Down; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley are commended for the many community services they are providing and in doing so bring positive recognition to the Viet Nam Veterans in our community.
