HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-469 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Resolution on September 26, 2ooq by the following vote: AYES: SUPERVISORS GIOIA,UILKEMA,DeSAULNIER,CANCIAMILLA and GERBER NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE SUBJECT: ) RESOLUTION NO. z oa 014 6 9 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ) CONTRA COSTA COMMUNITY ) COLLEGE DISTRICT FACILITIES } BOND MEASURE } WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District has served the students of our county with educational distinction for over 50 years; and WHEREAS, many of the facilities of the Contra Costa Community College District were constructed many years ago, some as early as the 1950s; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District has identified renovation and modernization needs, including additional classroom and lab space; science and computer lab renovations; plumbing repairs and roof replacements; security lighting; electrical upgrades for 21" - century technology; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning rehabilitation; and a new state-of-the-art facility at the San Ramon Valley Center; and WHEREAS, the District has determined that state funding is insufficient to meet the facility needs of the Contra Costa Community College District, including $57 million in current unmet scheduled maintenance; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District will ask voters to approve a facilities bond measure in November 2000, with a Citizen's Oversight Committee established to ensure that funds are spent properly; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, recognizing that the Contra Costa Community College District is a valuable higher education resource, does herewith endorse the November 2000 bond measure to meet the expanding educational and job training needs of Contra Costa County. The Chair acknowledged the requests, and the following people appeared for comments: John Wolfe, Contra Costa Taxpayer's Association, 820 Main Street, Martinez; Greg Feere, Contra Costa College District, #5, 935 Alhambra Avenue, Martinez. No one else desiring to speak, the Board discussed the matter, and took the following action: ADOPTED Resolution No. 2000/473 in support of the Contra Costa Community College District Facilities Bond Measure. 2
