HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-458 The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County In the Matter of Resolution No. 2000/458 PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 1-7TH, 2000 AS "MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK." IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY WHEREAS, twenty percent of adults-or one in five-will experience a psychiatric episode During their lifetime that is severe enough to require treatment, and many more have problems that prevent them from enjoying their lives; and WHEREAS,due to recent scientific advancements in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disabilities, millions of Americans are reclaiming full and productive lives; and WHEREAS,consumer advocacy and self-help programs, with the underlying philosophy that the best helpers are often those who have experienced similar problems,provide emotional support and practical help for promoting recovery, an on-going process of self directed healing and transformation, among their members; and WHEREAS,it is recognized that families and significant others play an important supportive role in the recovery process and are a vital resource in assisting their loved ones with psychiatric disabilities; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby proclaimed October 1-7th,2000 as "Mental Illness Awareness Week",and requests the support of Contra Costa County residents and organizations in this effort to increase awareness of psychiatric disabilities and to promote the understanding that,through proper treatment and rehabilitation, individuals are able to resume productive, satisfying lives.
