POKORNY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE WHEREAS, Gary F. Pokorny will retire from service with the City of El Cerrito on August 31, 2000,and %V/V " =a--ry F. Pokorny vvill;retire with over;30,years i0f service,to local and'rity government, including serving as City Manager of the City.of El Cerrito' 'for the past eleven years, and previously serving as City Manager of Corvallis Oregon.and as CityManager of Sioux City, Iowa;and WHEREAS,Gary F. Pokorny also served two years in the Peace Corps in Malaysio;and WHEREAS,Gary F. Pokorny assisted in developing and instilling the essentiai°organizational philosophy for the City of El Cerritci-I'.ESPEC'T°fResponsibility, Ethics,Service, Pride, Enthusiasm, Comminication, Teamwork); and WHEREAS,the citizens of,EI Cerrito have benefited greatly from GaryF. PokornyS"dedicated efforts in working*ith'the City Council and the community in developing policies to g i tx-re City"an his commitment to,excellence in delivering quality public services;irrmproving Che Clty`s fiscal stabilityy increasing financial reserves, building the new Arlington Fire`Station;expanding recycling programs; revising the City's General Plan, improving park maintenance;enhancing fire prevention education and enforcement, specifically through the Fire Hazard Reduction Program in the Hillside Natoral.Area and thexNeighborhood Emergency Assistance Teams (N.E.A.T.) program:reconstructing the City's storm drains,,implementing the contract to provide fire service to the Kensington community;working'for the successful bond measure to renovate ti,e 1=1 Cerrito Swim Center, expanding oppr rtOntties for recreation rprogramsforiyouth and older adults,- overseeing,projectsthat enhance the community such as Home_Depot Target, Taco Bell, Del Norte Marketplace, Del Norte-Place and the Ohlone Greenway;and his commitment to education,and, WHEREAS,,Gary F.rP.okQrnyhas encouraged'citizen underst nding of and involvemer t in.Cl gtiverriment, and assisted the City Council in providing for.active community participation,through such forums as>P,royject Listen, Neighbor-to-Neighbor,and Services,for the 1''st Century to P.1q the future of El Cerrito and help'the community achieve the vision it holds for itself,and WHER As,GaryF.
