HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-370 �� • I LI ��Owbw • RESOLUTION HONORING THE RESOLUTION NO. 2000/370 1001" BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OF ALICE AVON MORISETTE JOHNSTONE ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2000 WHEREAS, ALICE AVON MORISETTE JOHNSTONE was born in Hancock,Michigan on September 9, 1900,the oldest of four children. WHEREAS, ALICE AVON MORISETTE JOHNSTONE moved west with her family to Washington State where Alice graduated from teacher's college and took her first teaching job in Clearlake,Washington, earning$82 per month. While in her first year of teaching she met her future husband,Robert Johnstone on a train trip from Seattle. WHEREAS, ALICE AVON MORISETTE JOHNSTONE settled in Seattle with her new husband where they raised three children, She pioneered the first kindergarten in the community. In recognition of her excellence as a primary teacher a scholarship was created in her name by the school district to be awarded to outstanding student teachers in primary education. WHEREAS, ALICE AVON MORISEM JOHNSTONE celebrated 65 years of marriage before her husband's passing in 1990. Upon his death, she moved to Lafayette to live with her daughter, beginning a new era in her life. A physically and mentally able lady, she has slowed down little in her 90's, still traveling to Los Angeles to visit her granddaughter. She is a voracious reader and is always looking for a new challenge. WHEREAS, ALICE AVON MORISETTE JOHNSTONE is a remarkable women. Her family is very proud of her and honor her as their role model. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby wish "Van &9m�o- e� C (70"4&1w Passed by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors present this $t'day of August 2000.
