to Commemorate her American Red Cross )
Nurse Heroine Award and Proclaiming )
May 23d, 2000 Monica DeWitt Day ) RESOLUTION NO. 2000/252
TMER.EAS Registered.Nurse Monica DeWitt of Concord was honored in Washington
D.0 earlier this month as one of only ten recipients of the American Red Cross Heroine Award;
and
R'H.ERI~AS Monica DeWitt acted heroically last year in rendering aid to two young people
who had been involved in a major automobile accident by climbing into the overturned vehicle to
assist one of the injured and tearing her own clothing to provide a tourniquet to slaw the bleeding
from the nearly severed arm of the other victim; and
WUEREAS, Monica DeWitt not only exhibited genuine heroism by disregarding her own
immediate safety to assist the gravely injured accident victims, but also brings honor to her
profession through her service to the community and as a nurse with Kaiser Permanente specializing
in intensive care for over 20 years;
9WEREAS, Monica DeWitt serves as a model of heroism and dedication for us all; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors does hereby
proclaim May 23, 2000 as Monica DeWitt Day in Contra Costa County.
PASSEDAAD ADOPTED ON May 23, 2000 by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
