RESOLUTION NO. 20001216
SUBJECT:
Approve revised library sales tax ballot measure language for the already scheduled November 7,
2000 election by amending and revising the library sales tax ballot measure language previously
adopted on October 5, 1999 as part of Sections 6 and 7 (subsection C of the Board Order) entitled
"LIBRARY SALES TAX BALLOT MEASURE" and Subsection 3 of, and Exhibit A to Resolution 991420
as follows:
"Shall County Ordinance 99-51 be approved, restoring and improving local library
services by increasing days and hours neighborhood libraries are open; replacing worn
and outdated books and materials; expanding reading and educational programs for
children and services for adults, seniors, and businesses; providing funds for needed
repairs; and updating computers and technology, temporarily increasing the sales tax by
one eighth of one percent, exclusively for specific library services and automatically
expiring after eight years?"
With the above approval of revised library sales tax ballot measure language for the November 7,
2000 election, all other related actions taken by this Board on October 5, 1999 concerning this
proposed election are to remain in full force and effect.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None for this revised ballot measure.
BACKGROUND:
On October 5, 1999 the Board adopted Ordinance No. 99-51 authorizing an election for a 1/8 cent
transaction and use tax to restore, maintain, and improve library services throughout the county;
which election is to be held and conducted on November 7, 2000. Since October 5, the adopted
library sales tax ballot measure language has been further reviewed and revisions proposed to the
ballot measure as set forth above to make it clearer and more representative of the proposal to come
before the County's voters. The principal change made to the prior-approved ballot language is to
add the phrase indicated above that the sales tax would automatically expire after eight years.
