IN THE MATTER OF HONORING RESOLUTION 2000/186
THE MT. DIABLO RED DEVILS FOR
PLACING FIRST IN THE CALIFORNIA
WINTER GUARD CIRCUIT CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, Winter Guard, usually referred to as Color Guard, is a theatrical performance of
marching skills, encompassing theater, dance and geometric drill while spinning flags, rifles and
sabers; and
WHEREAS, Winter Guard, a division of the marching band, practices 20 to 30 hours weekly and
participates year-round in marching band,jazz band and concert band; and
WHEREAS, Winter Guard exceeded their original Scholastic A Classification and was moved to the
Scholastic Open Class. Faced with more experienced competitors,the team increased their practice
hours and worked to create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, on March 19, 2000 the Red Devils earned a place at the World Guard International
World Championships.
WHEREAS, on March 26, 2000 the Red Devils placed first in the California Winter Guard Circuit
Championship with top scores in all judging categories. The Red Devils went on to compete in the
World Championship Finals with an outstanding performance;
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
does hereby honor and commend the
