HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-170 C/C)0aI-wd C9 Pa IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2000/170 THE DEDICATION OF THE PONY EXPRESS MONUMENT TO THE CITY OF MARTINEZ WHEREAS, THE PONY EXPRESS has been preserved by the City of Martinez as an important part of its heritage; and WHEREAS, THE PONY EXPRESS, served as a picturesque means of mail delivery founded on April 23, 1860 when the first Pony Express rider, Thomas Bedford, rode through town; and WHEREAS, THE PONY EXPRESS station in Martinez was used as a home station-where riders would exchange duties when riding from Sacramento to San Francisco; and WHEREAS, THE CITY OF MARTINEZ has been selected as a site for this historically accurate monument that tells that part of the 1860-61 Pony Express, and is being recognized for their efforts in providing their citizens and those of Contra Costa County this part of their history. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby honor and commend the �Ob" �&� &9&WMWWXt PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 181h day of April, 2000.
