HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-113 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Honoring Louis Mangini for his Contributions to Contra Costa County RESOLUTION NO. 2000/113 WHEREAS the Mangini family has been a part of Pleasant Hill and Contra Costa County for almost a century and Louis Mangini has been a community leader for decades; and MHEREAS Louis' contributions to the community are enormous, having served on the Pleasant Hill Planning Commission from 1984 to 1999, including several terms as chairman. Louis also served on the County's Economic Development Task Force, the Grand Jury and the Sheriffs Posse, a Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce leader, the director of the Contra Costa Taxpayers Association since 1976 and has been active in numerous agricultural programs and organizations including the Advisory Council of the Diamond Walnut Growers Association. KWERE4S; Louis has devoted years of service to the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds in Antioch. In 1983 Governor George Deukmejian appointed him to the Board of Directors and was re-appointed by Governor Pete Wilson. Louis was elected president of the Fair Board in 1985 and has served continuously to the present. He has been persuasive and persistent in the promotion of the Fairgrounds, the annual fair and agricultural education programs for children and community groups. WHEREAS Louis' dedication and vision inspired planning an agricultural museum at the Fairgrounds, culminating in the fundraising and construction of the facility in 1998. The Fair Board named the building the Mangini Agricultural Museum. The museum opened in the summer of 1998 and exhibits feature farm equipment, a restored fire engine, a blacksmith shop and early, historic California farm implements. Part Of the building is dedicated to an Agricultural Classroom Facility where students will have state-of the-art instructional aids and hands-on opportunities for experiments and growing plants. The classroom, when complete will serve the county's schools for field trips and summertime program focusing on agriculture, food, nutrition, and the environment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we the County Board of Supervisors for Contra Costa County proclaim Friday, March 24, 2000 as Louis Mangini Recognition Day. NOW, THEREFORE; IT IS RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors declare March 24, 2000, a day dedicated to Louis Mangini for his lifetime of Community Service . - PASSED AND ADOPTED ON MARCH 21, 2", by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
