HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012000 - 2000-100 In the Matter of the Retirement of } Claude Van Matter,from the } Contra Costa County Administrator's Office } RESOLUTION NO.2000/100 WHEREAS Claude Van Marter (affectionately known as "Van") will retire from his position as Assistant County Administrator with the Contra Costa.County Administrator's Office on March 30,2000, it is appropriate at this time to acknowledge his many achievements and to publicly recognize his professional and civic leadership;and WHEREAS Van'rneceived his.bachelor's degree in 11psychologyf rom tiong Beach State College,then worked for Los Ange es county social services department and; .in 1964, entered social services administration, progressing;through management trainee to.program supervisor and''then to deputy district director. In 1967,.he was hired by Yolo County as its assistant countywelfare director;and WHMEAS::in`September 1969,he became assistant county welfare director for RiversizlP County and served in that°position until his move to Contra Costa County in Wl;and WHEREAS Van began his career with Contra Costa County as Couinty Welfare.Director rnMarch 1971,was subsequently promoted,to Human Resources Agency Director in June 19 and worked 'in that capacity—until his appointment to Assistant County Administrator I Iuman Services mipri11979,..an WHEREAS during liis long tenure with the Centra Costa County_Athxthrstratnr's +office, an staffed the Internal Operations,Family and Human Services,Homeless and'I'ohcy, ldvisory Committees, the Child Care Task Force and fhe l a ardour TVlaterials Council;ar►d WHEREAS,spanning a 20-year period,'Van a#fected more than 600 pieees`uf legislation and was instrumental in securing the 1997 passage of Senate Bill 431,which saved the corxrity,libil ary system mdliiom of dollars in property taxes;and WHEREAS Van,has served as a member of the exeGutrve committee of the County Welfare Directors' .ssociation;the I-louse of Delegates of the Councrl on Sk.ial Work.Eduaatron,and the Board of Directors of the California Assootat 66 of.Health Agency Adrr nistrattsrs;and -11 WHEREAS Var rs a hardworking, dedicated individual who loves chilldren, tapera, gourmet cooking and traVOL'arid has devoted his life to helping those in need:and WHEREAS,rt is estimated that'Van has m' de enough photo-copies that,when laid end-to-end, would span from Contra Costa to Lo's Angeles County,'where his career Began, and he will always be fondly remembered for single-kande ly decimating several tra train forests and will forever be on the "Most UN-Wanted"lists of the Sierra Club'and°tfie Greenbelt Alliance... NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes great pleasure in congratulating Claude Van Matter on his valuable service to the community,his profession and to Contra Costa County, and wishes him many wonderful,exciting and fulfilling years of retirement. 2000.
