HONORING THE LATE AC TRANSIT GENERAL MANAGER SHARON D.
BANKS
WHEREAS,::Sharon Banksjoined the Fist Bay's public bus system s general counsel
in 1990 and shortly afterwards became the first-AfricarrAmerican.woman;General
Manager of AC Transit and
WHEREAS,as General Manager of AC Transit for rt )st of the 1.99.0s,Sharon [),',Banks
led the agency in a pioneering effort to introduce cultural and orgdNzational changes
.aimed at mtivating a highly productive public transit workforce to!meet the East Bays
needs; and
WHEREAS, Sharon D. Banks
participated in and directed many transit irxJustry groups,;.
in Calfornia and across the nation, including the"National Tran

WHEREAS, Line 376 which Sharon D. Banks:vigorously fought for:became known as
California's first commpra"enerated welfare-to-work'transit service and
WHEREAS, on December 27. 1999, North Richmond, Contra Costa County the San
Francisco Bay Areaand WOrriia;suffered a great loss,a€the death`of Sharon D. Banks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That tyle Board of Supervisors of

accomplishments and her sincere dedicaWh°to provide sound and equitable
transportation service to communities which need it most.
