HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011999 - 99-576 IN SUPPORT OF THE CONTRA COSTA RESOLUTION NO. 99/576 COUNTY FIRST NIGHT — MARTINEZ NEW YEARS EVE CELEBRATION WHEREAS, FIRST NIGHT, is an internationally honored, family oriented, alcohol-free, countywide celebration of New Year's Eve scheduled for December 31, 1999 in the downtown and adjacent areas of Martinez; and WHEREAS, FIRST NIGHT celebration will revive the ancient tradition of marking the New Year with art, ritual and festivity using a present day content; and WHEREAS, FIRST NIGHT celebrations broaden and deepen the public appreciation of the visual and performing arts through an innovative, diverse and high quality New Year's Eve program which offers Contra Costa County citizens a shared cultural experience that is accessible and affordable to all; and WHEREAS, FIRST NIGHT shall use the downtown area of Martinez as its stage by transforming both indoor and outdoor venues into performing arenas that encourage cultural animation, public interaction and innovation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby encourages the citizens and business of the community to support and attend PASSED by a unanimous vete of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 16th day of November 1999.
