Resolution No.99f 238
Whereas, the Center ibr Human Development's Parent Education
Program is celebrating its twentieth anniversary and Volunteer Recognition event
on May 13, 1999; and
Whereas, the purpose of acknowledging the Parent Educator Program is
to focus on the importance of trained parents and community volunteers taking
an active role in reducing risk factors for adolescent substance abuse and
promoting resiliency in children by teaching positive peer interaction, decision-
making, resistance skills, conflict resolution and violence prevention, and
Whereas, the Parent Educator Program as part of the Center for Human
Development, a private nonprofit organization, has devoted itself to health
promotion issues since 1979; and
Whereas, more than 3,800 trained volunteers from the community have
reached over 170,000 elementary students in the Bay Area:
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County that May 13, 1999 be proclaimed as Parent Educator Program
Recognition Day In Contra Costa County:
