HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011999 - 1999-526 Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County, State of California IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING ] OCTOBER 1999 AS NATIONAL ] RESOLUTION NO. 99/526 DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS ] MONTH IN CONTRA COSTA COUNT__1 WHEREAS,citizens who have Down syndrome are recognized as active citizens that contribute much to the overall quality of life in this community; and WHEREAS, a greater public awareness and acceptances of persons with Down syndrome will increase their access to the community at large and to housing,employment, education and social and recreational opportunities; and WHEREAS,it is the hope and desire of this community to create a place where all people regardless of their disabilities can explore and develop their various strengths,enjoy productive employment,and contribute through meaningful participation in the life of the community;and WHEREAS,the Down Syndrome League of the Greater Bay Area,on behalf of the National Down Sydrome Congress,and the National Down Sydrome Society,has worked to secure this proclamation; and WHEREAS, it is the goal and desire of the County of Contra Costa to instill positive perceptions of all people with Down syndrome;and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOL'V'ED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County proclaims October, 1999 as NATIONAL DOWN SYDROME AWARENESS MONTH in Contra Costa County, and challenges the citizens of the community to look beyond an individual's particular disability and focus attention toward each person's diverse abilities and contributions to the community. Passed and Adopted on October 19, 1999,by a unanimous vote of Board members present.
