HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011999 - 1999-139 i f 6, 3 IN SUPPORT OF PRESERVING THE RESOLUTION NO. 99/139 PACIFIC REFINING COMPANY WHARF. WHEREAS, the preservation of the Pacific Refining Company wharf, located off the Rodeo shoreline on San Pablo Bay, is preferential to its demolition, if issues of transfer of ownership and future use can be satisfactorily resolved, and WHEREAS, Senator Barbara Lee introduced a resolution(Senate Resolution No. 19) during the 1997- 98 99798 regular session and adopted on September 8, 1997, establishing a Blue Ribbon Task Force for Water Transit (Task Force), and WHEREAS, the Task Force was created to explore the feasibility of high speed ferry service in the Bay Area to address the issues of transportation problems and traffic congestion that threaten to diminish the region's economic vitality and overall quality of life, and WHEREAS, the Task Force has called for public input on its recently completed Vision and Conceptual Design, Bay Area High-Speed Water Transit System for the 21st Century(February 1999), which it describes as "a bold new vision inviting public discussion and input," and WHEREAS, the Task Force has scheduled a public hearing to solicit input and comment on the report for Thursday, April 8, 1999, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in Oakland, and WHEREAS, a potential use of the wharf is as a transfer site for water transit, from smaller vessels serving communities located along San Pablo Bay and up into the Delta to larger, high speed vessels serving major destinations within the Bay Area. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors requests that the Task Force incorporate in its evaluation of water transit options to serve the residents of the Bay Area, the feasibility of utilizing the Pacific Refining Company wharf.
