HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011998 - 1998-503 Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County, State of California In the Matter Proclaiming October 1998 as National ) Down Syndrome Awareness ) Month in Contra Costa County ) Resolution No. 981503 WHEREAS, citizens who have Down syndrome are recognized as active citizens who contribute much to the overall quality of life in this county; and WHEREAS, a greater public awareness and acceptance of persons with Down syndrome will increase their access to the community at large and to housing, employment, education, and social and recreational opportunities; and WHEREAS, it is the hope and desire of this Board to create a place where all people regardless of their disabilities can explore and develop their various strengths, enjoy productive employment, and contribute through meaningful participation in the life of the community; and WHEREAS, the Down Syndrome League of the Greater Bay Area, on behalf of the National Down Syndrome Congress and the National Down Syndrome Society, has worked to secure this proclamation; and WHEREAS, it is the goal and desire of the County of Contra Costa to instill positive perceptions of all people with Down syndrome: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors proclaims October, 1998, as NATIONAL DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH and challenges the citizens of the county to look beyond an individual's particular disability and focus attention toward each person's diverse abilities and contributions to the community. 21ntoduced by: 1 hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the Minutes of the Board of Supervisors of October 6, 1998.
