WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Veterans'Monument located in Pleasant Hill was first
dedicated in 192?as a testimonial to the patriotic spirit which has kept our country free from
military occupation and to honor the men and women who fought for our freedom; and
WHEREAS, unfortunately, the years of exposure and lack of regular maintenance left the
Monument in disrepair, and
WHEREAS, in 1995, the Monument Preservation & Restoration Committee was formed to
restore the Monument to its original condition and to arrange to preserve it forever, and
WHEREAS, the restoration project has been a collaborative effort of government agencies,
veterans'organizations, businesses, and individuals; and
WHEREAS, on .Memorial Day 1998, after much hard work and commitment by the Ad Hoc
Committee, the Monument was rededicated in front of a crowd of hundreds; and
)WHEREAS, we wish to thank every person and organization who gave of their time and
talents or who made a financial donation to restore this important piece of Contra Costa
County history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors the

PASSED AND ADOPTED ON July 14, 1998, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
