Disability Prevention Program conveneda first-of-its kind.Anemia Task Force,

"Whereas the ?'ask Force partic pants included the Contra Costa Food Bank, the
"Women, Infant and ChiCdren (WIC)food supplement program, UC Cooperative
Extension Program, Head Start, and the Contra Costa County Child Care
Council; The Community -Wellness Prevention Program, including the Lead
Poisoning Prevention Project, Contra Costa Health Plan, Foundation Health,
Inc., the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, Contra Costa Regional

'Whereas this unique collaborative effort with public andprivate agencies
determined to reduce the rate of chiCaTwod anemia by two percentage points per
year until Contra Costa County reached the "Health People 2000"objectives of
10%for Cow-income children under 5 years and596for older children, anti;
Whereas the Board of Supervisors procCaimedFebruary 1.997 ".Anemia

Whereas the ..Anemia Task Force designed and implemented a campaign about
the problem of iron-deficiency anemia and the need to eat iron-rich food
proposedpoCocy changes and trained medical providers, and;
-Whereas more than loo organizations in Contra Costa County participated in
the community education campaign, aiu,
Whereas the overatlrate of anemia in Contra Costa droppedfrom 23% to 17%
between 1994 and 1,996 and the county's ranking dropped from 6`F to 25"
NOW WTREFORE BE JTT RESOL'VTD that the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors commends the..Anemia ?'ask Force for its outstanding effort, an,4-
