In the Matter Commending Michael }
Sands for Outstanding Service to the }
Slackhawk and Canyon Lakes }
Geologic Hazard Abatement Districts } Resolution No. 981316
WHEREAS, Michael Sands has worked for the Blackhawk and Canyon Lakes
Geologic Hazard Abatement Districts (GHADs)for twelve years; and
WHEREAS, Michael Sands has served in the capacity of Construction and
Maintenance Superintendent for both the Blackhawk and Canyon Lakes GHADs for
approximately eight years; and
WHEREAS, Michael has extensive experience in responding to, and assisting
with, the repair of landslides and landslide related work in the GHADs and surrounding
areas; and
WHEREAS, due to the untimely death of the former General Manager of the
GHADs, combined with the disastrous effects of El Nino, Michael has absorbed
additional responsibility in order to assure that the residents of Blackhawk and Canyon
Lakes are serviced at all times; and
WHEREAS, most recently, Michael Sands exemplified the depth of his skills,
resources and commitment during an emergency Operation to protect two residences
from a landslide on Chestnut Drive in Blackhawk:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County commends Michael Sands for outstanding service to the Blackhawk and
Canyon Lakes Geologic Hazard Abatement Districts, thanks him for his loyal service to
residents, and looks forward to continuing to work with him in the future.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the June 23,
1998 Minutes of the Board of Supervisors.
