In the Matter of Resolution No. 98/283
HONORING MARGARET WALKER FOR HER
LONG-TIME ADVOCACY OF THE GAY AND
LESBIAN COMMUNITY IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS, Margaret Walker developed the Walnut Creek extension of Berkeley's Pacific
Center for Human Growth in 1991 and served as its director for six years;and
WHEREAS, Margaret's extensive knowledge of the community,expertise in human sexuality,
willingness to take risks for her convictions,and uncommon compassion leavened with great good humor
have touched countless lives; and
WHEREAS, Margaret also is known in the County for work within the HIV/AIDS volunteer
community. She has served as co-chair of the Contra Costa HIV/AIDS Consortium through which she
helped to manage services' coordination with the Contra Costa Department of Health Services, local
hospitals, and nonprofit community agencies; and
WHEREAS, from 1992 through 1996 she devoted many volunteer hours to this cause and as a
member of the Consortium's Education and Prevention Committee she developed"training for trainers"
on the latest CDC data,on HIV prevention and self-esteem issues; and
WHEREAS, on June 26, 1998 Margaret Walker's remarkable journey of advocacy for the gay
and lesbian community in Contra Costa County will be honored by Contra Costa County's gay, lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender community at the Rainbow Center's second annual Honors dight.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of
Contra Costa,California,do hereby extend sincere congratulations to Margaret Walker for the honor
being bestowed upon her and for her unselfish dedication to the education of our communities.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 2nd day of June, 1998.
