HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011998 - 1998-270 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 19. 1998 . by the following vote: AYES: SUPERVISORS UIL EMA, GMBER, 17ESAULNIE R, CANCIAMILLA and ROGERS NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE In The Matter of PROCLAMING the week of RESOLUTION NO. 98/ 270 May 1822,1998 as Bike to Work Week in ) Contra Costa County, and ) WHEREAS, breathing clean air is vital to healthy lungs and life, and levels of air pollution in Contra Costa County often exceed health standards; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County acknowledges that cycling to work is a successful rideshare mode to reduce air pollution, alleviate traffic congestion and decrease fuel consumption; and WHEREAS, Bike to Work Days have proven effective in converting drivers into bicyclists, and educating citizens about the environmental importance of bicycling to work regularly, and WHEREAS, Contra Costa county encourages its citizens to bicycle to work in order to improve air quality, and promote personal and environmental health; and WHEREAS, cities and counties throughout California are promoting May 18-22, 1998 as a statewide Bike to Work Week, known as "California Bike Commute 1998"; and WHEREAS, the American Lung Association, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Contra Costa Health Services Community Wellness and Prevention Program, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and RIDES for Bay Area Commuters are promoting May 18-22, 1998 as the Bay Area's Bike to Work Week, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby proclaim that May 18-22, 1338, is Contra Costa County Bike to Work Week.
