IN THE MATTER OF NAMING THE NEW GIRLS' REHABILITATION RESOLUTION NO. 98/249
FACILITY IN HONOR OF CHRIS ADAMS FOR HER.MAII'rTTY YEARS
OF DEVOTION TO CHID ADVOCACY AND VOLUNTEERISM
WHEREAS,plans are currently underway to open a new residential program for girls at the Lion's Gate Center
on Glacier Drive; and
WHEREAS, Chris Adams has been an advocate for children and youth in Contra Costa County for well over 35
years; and
WHEREAS, Chris Adams has served as President,Board Member and member of the PTA, member and Chair
of the Juvenile Systems Planning Advisory Committee,member and Chair of the California and County
Juvenile Justice Crime&Delinquency Prevention Commission,member of the National Council on Crime and
Delinquency, delegate to the National Conference on Criminal Justice, California delegate to the White House
Conference on Children,Regional Director of the National Volunteer Bureau Board,member of the Girl Scouts
of U.S.A. Regional Resource and Referral Committee,member of the Advisory Committee preparing Guidelines
For Youth Service Bureaus,member of the American Correctional Association,member of the California
Women's Commission On Alcoholism,member of the Advisory Committee on Detention Practices, member of
the California Youth Authority's Volunteer Advisory Committee, President of the California Council on
Children and Youth,member of the State Delinquency Prevention Commission, Chair of the Planning
Committee for the Governor's Conference on Delinquency as well as active participation on many more
organizations dealing with delinquency,Juvenile justice and substance abuse at the local, state and federal
levels; and
WHEREAS, Chris Adams has been honored with the California Youth Authority's Distinguished Service Award,
National PTA Honorary Life Membership Award, Contra Costa County Mental Health Association Special
Award for Services to Children and Youth, National Volunteer Award, Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award,
OrindaJLafayette AAUW Distinguished Woman Award, California Delinquency Prevention Commission Award
and the 1967 Lafayette Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year" Award; and
WHEREAS, Chris Adams is a 27 year resident of Lafayette where she and her husband, Dr. Robert Adams,
have raised their three children as well as several foster children; and
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby name
the new girls' facility the
and a plaque memorializing this resolution will be prominently displayed at the facility at the time of its
dedication.
PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present this 19th day of May, 1998.
