"Whereas, the-American family, serving as therprimary source of love, identity,
se-esteem, andsupport, is the very foundation of our communities ardour
nation; and
Whereas, there are currently 2100 children in foster care in Contra Costa County
who come into foster care due to problems of abuse anrdneglect; they needthe
temporary safety andsecur%ty of a stable foster family until they can achieve a
safe,permanent famiCy environment; and
`Whereas, Emergency,Foster,Families open their homes andhearts to these
children in crisis, often in the thiddre of the night andwithout notice, comforting
and holding these frightened and confused children;and
Whereas, over 400 foster families in Contra Costa County dedicate themselves to
providing these children with the love andvalues that help prepare them.for
responsible adult Civing, and
`Whereas, numerous public andprivate agencies work to increase the public s
awareness of the needs of children in foster care and the enduring andvaluable
contribution of fosterparents.
xow, therefore, be it resolved that the Boardof Supervisors declares May x998,
FOSTTR.PAREN7"REC0!G-wT'T2`O.N.9 0N7'-f in Contra Costa County.
Passedandadoptedon May 12, 19!98, by a unanimous vote of Boardmembers
present.
