CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
IN THE MATTER OF PROMOTING RESOL UTION NO. 9 812 z 7
The Month of May as:
"Toddler Immunization Month"
WHEREAS recent California surveys indicate 25%of California children are not
up-to-date with their recommended immunizations by two years of age; and
WHEREAS the childhood diseases ofpolio, measles, diphtheria, tetanus,pertussis, mumps,
rubella and Hib meningitis stillpose a threat to unimmunized children, and complications of these
diseases are often devastating to both patients and their families; and
WHEREAS virtually all children attending schools and licensed day care centers in Contra
Costa County are protected by these immunizations because schools and centers enforce the
California School Immunization Law; and
OIEREAS the basic series of immunizations against childhood diseases should be
completed before a child's second birthday; and
WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Health Services Department Public Health Division
will hold daily immunization clinics where toddlers can receive free immunizations; and
WHEREAS private physicians throughout the county also will be making special efforts to
encourage parents to bring their young children in for needed immunizations during May;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, That the Members proclaim the month of May as "Toddler
Immunization Month"and request the support of Contra Costa County residents and organizations
in this effort to protect our children between birth and two years from dangerous diseases.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 5th day of
May, 1998.
