IN THE MATTER OF HONORING & RESOLUTION NO. 98/186
COMMENDING GOODWILL INDUSTRIES
OF THE GREATER EAST BAY AS THE 1997
NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION
OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF TEE GREATER EAST BAY, an independent non-
profit organization, founded in 1919, has been successfu)ly and consistently moving local people from
welfare to work; and
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF THE GREATER FAST BAY, operates paid job
training programs at the Goodwill Contra Costa County job Training and Placement Center in
Antioch and in 1997 helped 255 Contra Costans to find jobs, provided paid on the job training for 198
local people, operated five retail Goodwill Stores and 32 attended Donation Stations and a processing
and distribution center in Antioch, all of which provided training opportunities and revenue in support
of job training and placement; and
WHEREAS, GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF THE GREATER FAST BAY, stresses financial
independence as a goal for people with disadvantaging conditions and other disabilities and serves as
a role model agency by earning the funds to support its programs and services through the sale of
donated goods and through contract operations; and
WHEREAS, residents of Contra Costa County have demonstrated support for the GoodArill mission
through 236,207 material donations and 316,468 purchases in county Goodwill Stores.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
does hereby honor and commend
