IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING MARCH, 19913,1
AS PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH RESOLUTION NO. 98/97
IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY-
WHEREAS,
LINTYWHEREAS, the social-work profession is recognized throughout the United States as that profession
which best serves the needy, the vulnerable,the disabled and the abused and neglected populations,
whether aged or children. Social Workers must adhere to high standards of practice which includes
having specialized training,knowledge and skills,understanding of the diversity of cultures and
communities and ming the expectations of conduct established by the professional code of ethics.
iER s4S, Social Workers in Contra Costa County assume many roles and responsibilities, including
child welfare worker, mental health clinical worker, medical social worker, probation officer, adult
protective services worker,therapist and supervisor. We wish to honor all of these professional social
workers. Professional social workers can and do make a difference in the lives of individuals. It is the
largest group of professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those individuals and families
whose lives have been disrupted.
WHEREAS, the social-work profession grew out of the social conditions of another era. There are now
new challenges with welfare reform and other societal changes that will require new strategies to
empower individuals and families and ensure social responsibility.
WHEREAS, it is of utmost importance to recognize the ongoing commitment of the people who serve as
social workers in our County so that they are celebrated for their dedication and effectiveness in meeting
the challenges of the past and the challenges of the present.
NOW, MEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares March, 1998,
PROFMIONAL SOCL4L WORK MON7W in Contra Costa County.
Passed and Adopted on March 10, 1998, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
