CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Honoring the Life of }
SIL LWjGARA EEATA SR ) RESOLUTION NO. 9816 8-
WHEREAS, Silvio Garaventa, Sr, was an upstanding citizen of Contra Costa County, having
run successful family businesses and donating millions of dollars to many community causes; and
WHEREAS, family was at the center of Sil's world, and he is survived by his wife of 50 years, 2
sans, ,daughters, a brother, and 17 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, his businesses, Concord Disposal and Garaventa Enterprises, are family operated,
and allowed Sil to make many significant contributions to his community; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Sil has contributed to such worthy causes as John Muir, Mt.
Diablo, Delta Memorial, and Los Medanos Hospitals, St. Mary's College, Boy Scouts of
America, Concord Youth Sports Foundation, Concord Youth Center, New Connections,
Battered Women's Alternatives, Bay Area Crisis Nursery, Carondelet and De La Salle High
Schools, child abuse programs, and various other community churches and charities; and
WHEREAS, Sil has been recognized for his generosity by being awarded the American Cancer
Society Excaliber Award, the Paul Harris Fellow Award, the Concord Chamber of Commerce
Business Person of the Year, the Easter Seal Man of the Year, and the Mt. Diablo Hospital
Foundation Man of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa has lost one of its finest citizens, and Sil Garaventa,
Sr., will be truly missed, however, Sil has left a Legacy that will long be remembered and valued.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors the life of
SILVV70 GARAVENTA S9, and we Mend our deepest regrets to his family and friends.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON February 24, 1998) by a unanimous vote of the Board
